Dupont

An iconic landmark in Downtown Toronto, 888 Dupont was a distinctive structure, known for its industrial steel windows, striking green graffiti-covered exterior, and legendary parties, had to make way for new development. Ouroboros was enlisted to help salvage the industrial steel windows and historic bricks for reuse in the new design.

Opened in 1921, the building initially served as a thread-spinning facility. Over the years, it housed a variety of enterprises, becoming a paper and printing company in 1939. During World War II, it was used for building airplanes. After the war, Thor took over, renowned for the AutoMagic, an all-in-one washer/dryer and dishwasher. In the 1950s, the building was acquired by the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB), transforming it into a factory where blind workers produced brooms, mops, furniture, and other goods. Post-CNIB, it hosted various manufacturers producing shoes, medicine, furniture, sporting goods, fiberglass boats, and even served as a catering space.

In recent years, the building provided affordable space for artists to live and work. We are proud to have played a part in preserving this incredible history, ensuring its legacy lives on in the new development.
